THE QUOTABLE MADDY
Rumors of this blog's demise are highly overrated. I, "Really Rather Not Nice" have simply been horrendously busy, and short on collected quotes to slap in here for a very long while. And I do have plans to correct this situation. In the mean-time, I hope to honor Mr. Gaiman's young progeny, Ms. Maddy, with her own very special edition of Quotable Maddy, as Aug. 28th is her birthday. We'll kick things off with a quote from Dad, and then give the floor to his demented offspring.
“Let's see -- today's big news is MADDY GAIMAN IS NINE TODAY. (And on the subject of birthday parties, why is there a plastic box filled with wobbly water-balloons in the kitchen? Do I have anything to worry about?)
– Neil Gaiman 08/28/03
“Holly HollyMaddy Maddy Maddy Maddy Maddy Maddy Maddy Maddy Maddy Maddy Maddy (This is Maddy typing, ((Holly wanted me to type the Holly part)) could you tell?)”
– Maddy Gaiman 08/10/04
“Now everyone (This is Maddy for your information) I suppose you think Dad's blog is wonderful and want to read it every day and wait for the marvelous things he says like that thingie up there. But, really I must tell you I am the inspiration for all this things! Plus, I can make computer cats and fish. Wanna see? Fish: ><)))"> and Cat" =^..^= Meow! Thank you, thank you, thank you very much.”

“Good evening and welcome to the Maddy Gaiman show! And now... the moment you've all been waiting for... (drumroll please)......MADDY GAIMAN!!!!! "Thank you, thank you, thank you very much. I want to thank everyone for coming tonight! But I must bid you goodnight. So, now, before it gets to, like, two in the morning let's hear sports from Neil Gaiman"

“Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Merry Kwanzaa! Happy New Year! A.K.A. Happy Holidays Everybody! Yo yo yo sup doggs! Maddy is in the house! I had a pretty good day today.... I bought two new pairs of shoes and they are pretty sweet!! Except for the fact Holly thinks they are ugly. I strongly disagree. My father and I have been watching Dr. Who lately... the one with Christopher Ecclestone, I mean. It was reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy good. But we watched it soo much that...um... we kind of ran out of episodes. So... now we must wait patiently for the new season to come out. Yes, quite. Well, as much fun as this has been I must sadly and sorrowfully bid you all good night. Good night.

“Maddy: Dad. I need to know the truth. Are you famous?
Me: No. Not really.
Maddy: But there are people who know who you are, aren't there?
Me: Well, yes.
Maddy: And they think you're famous?
Me: Some of them do, I suppose, yes. Why?
Maddy: Well, you see, I've been looking at people a lot recently. People in cars. And sometimes I think that maybe they're movie stars or people I've seen on the TV. And I thought to myself, "Don't be silly. People on the TV wouldn't just be driving about." But then I thought about you. I mean there are people who'd see you, and go "He wouldn't just be driving about" and you are. So I think probably they are movie stars after all.”

All dads are weird.
It's their job.

Brilliant.
Hi Neil! My name is Michael Wadkins, and needless to say I admire your writing. I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to post it on this board and I couldn't find any other way of contacting you personally. My email address is mwadkins@ctc.net
if you are interested that is? I know you are a very busy person, but it would most certainly light up my day if you wrote me back so I could ask you my question in private. Thank you very much, and I hope you have a great day. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Michael Wadkins
"Imagination is more important than knowledge." -Albert Einstein
this is glorious. it gives me hope for the future that there are bright , charming, witty, too smart for their own good children in the world. if there were more kids like maddy ,maybe things in the future would be like a really good game of candy land instead of some creepy fascist 1984 bleakness.
To "anonymous": I'm a dad, and I'm weird, so I would have to agree. (although its definitely pro bono work)
To "guy": Yes, aren't they?
To "Michael": I am not Neil Gaiman. I am RRNN, host of the Quotable Neil site, which is dedicated merely to quoting Mr. Gaiman, from his own blog over at www.neligaiman.com/journal If you would like to ask Mr. Gaiman a question, there is a handy dandy FAQ page on his own site that you can enter questions into. May I caution you against posting your e-mail address here on my blog as the readers of this blog (myself especially) are an unpleasant and predatory lot. I wish you good luck in getting any celebrity, (even an atrociously polite and decent one like Mr. Gaiman) to answer a private question via e-mail. Perhaps you could try calling him a "horrible, hairy, little man" as this seems to draw his attention for good or ill.
To "shannon g": I have found that most children are too smart and witty for their own good (as I have lost several sparring matches against my own 6 yr. old daughter in the recent past... sigh.)
To "sandyg": I try, I really do... but I am a naughty and irresponsible Blogger, and will have to be vicously pinched for my crimes. I vow to try better in the future.
To "me": You are thinking of the wrong daughter. If you scroll down to "A Holly Jolly Birthday," you will see that Neil had "the conversation" with elder daughter Holly, who was named after a character in a Lou Reed song. Maddy is the younger daughter, not, to my knowledge, named after any drag-queens (too bad for her).
(those last two are for comments that have apparently not shown up yet on this blog, but that I received via e-mail, for those in the wondering)
I know, I know, I commented at the previous post, and then I saw The Conversation, but it was too late. So I tried to delete... oh well... nevermind. kanpai! =]
I am terribly sorry; I thought this was Neil Gaiman's personal comment site. Oooops. Thanks for the advice though--I will keep it in the future. Have a great day.
Ahah, thanks!
I'd forgotten how cool Maddy Gaiman was :)

As a constant reader of all things Neil I must say how much I've enjoyed Ms. Maddy's sporadic appearances. I believe she may be following in her father's footsteps. Happy Birthday Maddy!
Like Father, like Daughter.
Always great words from both!
